To enable students to identify possible work experience placements.
Many students need help in deciding which work experience placement to take. Looking at, and sorting, pictures can be an easy way of making some initial decisions.
Students make an effective and appropriate choice of work experience placement.
This activity can be used with students of all abilities but is particularly appropriate for students with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Pictures printed from Jed of the types of jobs available in your work experience programme. Pictures should be printed in as high a quality as possible, preferably in colour, and could be laminated so that they can be used over and over again.
Make sure the students have a clear list of the types of placements available to them. Show them the pictures you have prepared.
Sort the pictures of work experience jobs into three sets:-
Like - these are activities that you can see yourself doing.
Not sure - these are activities that may need a little more research.
Don't like - these are activities that you cannot see yourself doing.
Discuss the 'Not sure' selection to finalise your decision about each one, and then talk through why you chose the cards you did for the 'Like' selection. Record your ideas for future reference.
Discussion about what they are looking forward to the most on work experience.
After completing their placement, students can add pictures from Jed to their work experience report to reflect the activities that they have done.
