Getting to know Jed - part four

Other types of searches

Lesson

Getting to know Jed part four (of six). To introduce students to other search facilities in Jed.

Context

When using Jed, students need to understand that the program has some ‘fun’ ways into it, via top ten lists and the job of the day. The job records can also be searched by subject.

Learning outcomes

Students will understand that Jed can match their favourite subject to job titles.

Level

Average and below average ability students.

Resources

Access to Jed and the student instruction/answer sheet below.

The associated document/worksheet for this activity can be downloaded as a PDF file.

Starter

Ask the class to suggest jobs where an interest in Geography might be useful. Jed can suggest even more and can show how other subjects can be useful in work.

Main

The activity sheet takes the student through the ‘Subject search’ as well as the ‘Top ten’ search and the job of the day.

Plenary

Ask the students to discuss some of the jobs that came up in their subject searches and how the subject might be useful in that job.

Extension activity

Students could prepare information sheets about jobs that match a particular subject. Once prepared a copy could be put on the notice board in that subject room.
