Getting to know Jed - part three

Suits me?

Lesson

Getting to know Jed part three (of six). To introduce students to the matching feature in Jed.

Context

When using Jed, students need to understand that the program can select a personal list of jobs that result from the student’s response to a series of questions. The more accurate the responses, the closer the match in the list of jobs.

Learning outcomes

Students will understand that Jed can match them to jobs.

Level

Average and below average ability students.

Resources

Access to Jed and the student instruction/answer sheet below.

The associated document/worksheet for this activity can be downloaded as a PDF file.

Starter

Ask the class to suggest a job that might suit them and to explain why they think that is so. Tell them that Jed can be told things about them and then draw up a list of jobs that may suit them and be worth looking at in more detail.

Main

The activity sheet takes the student through the ‘Suits me’ section of Jed so that they see the different types of questions and how their answers can change the matched list.

Plenary

Ask the students to discuss the job ideas that came up. Were they surprising in any way? Can they explain why the job came up in the list

Extension activity

Students could redo the ‘Suits me’ section of Jed at another time and see if the ideas generated are the same. Why might they differ?
